A Wisconsin woman has been named one of the eight finalists in the third class of Faces of Farming and Ranching by the U.S. Farmers and Ranchers Alliance (USFRA). The Faces of Farming and Ranching is a nationwide search to help put real faces on agriculture.
Wisconsin Farm Bureau member Katie Roth grew up in Darlington, on her family’s 330 head dairy farm. Married in early 2016, Katie works on her husband’s farm Banner Ridge Farms, LLC, as the herdsman in addition to serving as a program technician for the Farm Service Agency (FSA) in Grant County. Katie has served a variety of roles in her county Farm Bureau including Young Farmer and Agriculturist chair, secretary and Ag in the Classroom co-Chair. She has also graduated from Wisconsin Farm Bureau Leadership Institute and the American Farm Bureau Women’s Communications Boot Camp.
“This is a wonderful opportunity to share my passion for agriculture and how food is grown in America,” said Roth. “When you enjoy something so much it is easy to speak from the heart. I want to a proactive voice, sharing my story about what really happens on modern dairy farms.”
The Grant County farmer has advanced to the next round in the selection process.
Through Oct. 14-23, people can visit USFRA’s Facebook page to learn more about the finalists and their farms and ranches. Visitors can vote for the farmers and ranchers they believe best represent the passion and innovation of modern agriculture.
Other finalists include Lauren Arbogast of Virginia, Emily Buck of Ohio, Lauren Schwab of Ohio, Paul Lanoue of Minnesota, Geoff Ruth of Nebraska, Joy Widerman of Pennsylvania and Jeremy Brown from Texas.
Winners will be announced November 9 during a USFRA press conference at the National Association of Farm Broadcasting Convention in Kansas City.
