We are greatful for the opportunity to comment on the U.S. Department of Labor's proposal and to point out the potenital damaging inmpact this proposal would have on the agriculture industry and on our ablitiy as agricultural owner/operator/educators to teach students/family/employees to be safe when working on the farm.
We come from unique backgrounds that tie into different types of agriculture but our operations would be vastly impacted by this proposal. One side of our family runs a strawberry farm while the other operates a commercial dairy goat farm. We have vested interest in each operation and have recently bought into the dairy goat farm. With current statings and vagness in this proposal both operations will be impacted. Our family will not have the option to allow our children the same opportunites that we experienced should this be put into effect. As parents our concern is to provide a safe working environment for ourselves, employees, and our children. Situations may not allow one or the other parent to be owners and operators on the farms. With the current wording in the proposal we will not be able to have children, cousins, or non-related youth employed on these operations. Growing up we both were presented with vast opportunities that currently will be denied by the proposal. These opportunites instilled deep morals and values that are hard pressed to find in those without the similar type of background.
It is our opinion, that it should be up to the parents of the child to use discretion what the capibilites and limitations should be when regarding to on-farm activities.

I believe that this proposal will be the final demise of functioning family farm that struggles to exist in Wisconsin. This will eliminate the next generation of farms and allow large corporate farming to exist in Wisconsin, adding yet another group of people to be unemployed and risk losing their property. Please reconsider this proposal.
