½ c. shortening
2 c. sugar
2 eggs
½ c. cocoa
1 c. sour milk or buttermilk
2 ½ c. flour
½ tsp. salt
2 tsp. baking soda
1 c. warm
water
Directions
- Grease and flour a 9×13 inch cake pan; set aside. Combine flour, salt and soda in a small bowl; set aside.
- Cream sugar and shortening in a large mixing bowl. Add eggs and beat until light and fluffy; add cocoa and mix well.
- Add the dry ingredients alternately with milk. Beat in water.
- Pour batter into the prepared pan and bake at 350 degrees for 40-50 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
