The WFBF Women’s Program is a dynamic group of Farm Bureau leaders who plan and carry out projects and activities to educate youth and consumers about agriculture and promote positive messages about farming, food safety, animal welfare, and other agricultural topics appropriate to adult and youth audiences. There are three main avenues to which the Women’s Committee directs their focus:
Wisconsin Ag Women’s Summit is a result of the collaboration of the Wisconsin Farm Bureau Federation, Badgerland Financial and UW-Extension. This premier event held each spring at the Kalahari Resort in Wisconsin Dellsis designed for all women involved in agriculture, with numerous learning sessions centered around three areas of interest to agricultural women – networking, agriculture awareness and wellness/family living/life balance. Ag in the Classroom program provides teachers and students with an understanding of how their food is produced. The goal of the program is to help students acquire enough knowledge to function effectively as agriculturally literate citizens supportive of wise agricultural policies and programs. Wisconsin Ag in the Classroom materials include a set of lesson plans for grades 4-6, a resource guide to agricultural teaching materials, a set of children’s books on agriculture and a variety of other classroom resources. Additional information can be found at the Wisconsin Ag in the Classroom website.
- The Women’s Committee also hosts an essay contest for fourth and fifth grade students. Each year the topic has specific lesson plans, activities and other resources that teachers and home school parents can use to teach about Wisconsin agriculture.
- The Children’s Agriculture Book series is an ongoing effort by the Women’s Committee to promote books for elementary-age children that accurately portray modern agriculture.
