Meet your 2017 State YFA Committee
Derek grew up on a dairy farm in west-central Wisconsin. He has a bachelor’s degree in agricultural engineering technology with a minor in soil science from UW-River Falls and a Master’s degree in soil science from Texas A&M University. He works for the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) as a soil conservationist. Although his family no longer has dairy cattle, his nights and weekends are spent helping his parents farm nearly 300 acres of corn, soybeans and alfalfa.
District 1 (Jefferson, Kenosha, Milwaukee, Ozaukee, Racine, Walworth, Washington and Waukesha counties)
Charlie works on Cozy Nook Farm, a dairy farm near Waukesha managed by his parents Tom and Joan Oberhaus. He is a graduate of UW-Madison’s Farm and Industry Short Course. After high school Charlie formed Cozy Nook Trucking LLC, a one-truck business that he operates full-time along with working at his home farm. He is a member of the Waukesha County Farm Bureau.
Alison r is an assistant vice president in the Farm and Home segment for Badgerland Financial. Alison works with farmers and rural residents in portions of Sauk County and all of Juneau County. Alison is on the board of directors for Sauk County Farm Bureau and helps organize Cows on the Concourse, an annual event in Madison that kicks off June Dairy Month. Raised on a hog and grain farm in Illinois, Alison now lives and works in Baraboo.
Tammy is a field representative for Equity Livestock Sales Cooperative. She assists farmers in southwest Wisconsin and northeast Iowa with livestock marketing. Tammy owns 20 Shorthorn and Angus beef cows. She is a member of the Grant County Farm Bureau, secretary of the Grant County Cattleman’s Association, board member of the Lancaster FFA Alumni and lifetime member of UW-Platteville alumni.
Amanda and her husband, Josh, farm with Amanda’s family on 1,300 acres and milk 300 dairy cows in northern Marquette County. Josh and Amanda have been married two years with a little one expected in June of 2015. In addition to farming, she is a farm insurance underwriter. Josh is also an emergency medical technician and fireman. Amanda is the Marquette County Farm Bureau YFA Chair and Josh is on the Marquette County Farm Bureau board. He also serves as the county’s dairy committee chair.
Carley Blado of New Holstein is the president of the Calumet County Farm Bureau. He works as the lead herdsman at the 400-cow Park Farm Inc. in Kiel. He assists with field work and other farm operations. He owns 40 cows and 35 heifers on the farm. He enjoys hunting, fishing, snowmobiling and other outdoor activities.
Brian developed his passion for dairy farming on his family’s 60-cow farm. A graduate of UW-River Falls in dairy science, he is herd manager for Nehls Brothers Farms. Before his appointment to the WFBF YFA Committee he was the Waupaca County YFA chair. Brian volunteers at the Waupaca County Fair each August where he assists dairy exhibitors.
Beth is a regional program manager for the Wisconsin Milk Marketing Board’s Wisconsin Dairy Council. Beth works with K-12 schools in north-central Wisconsin to explain the benefits of drinking milk and works closely with media to promote Wisconsin cheese. Beth is the treasurer of the Marathon County Farm Bureau and is actively involved in her church and the Marathon County Partnership for Progressive Agriculture. Beth and her husband Matt live in Hatley with their son Henry.
Julie is a farm and production management instructor at Wisconsin Indianhead Technical College where she works with farmers to get on the latest technology and methods for improving farm longevity. She is a graduate of UW-River Falls and a Barron County Farm Bureau member. In her free time, she likes to read, take videos and pictures of her son, ride bike and seek adventure. Julie and her son, Bryan, live in Rice Lake.
Derek and Charisse milk 250 cows at Orthridge Jerseys with his parents on a farm near Lancaster. Derek has a certificate in dairy herdsmanship from Utah State University. He is a board director of the Grant County Farm Bureau and treasurer of the Wisconsin Jersey Breeders Association.
