The Dairy Business Association (DBA) honored Katie Grinstead of Vir-Clar Farm as the 2015 DBA Advocate. This award was presented in conjunction with the first annual Dairy Strong conference held January 13-15 at the Monona Terrace Convention Center in Madison, Wisconsin.
Grinstead operates Vir-Clar Farm in Fond du Lac, Wis. with her parents and brother. Together, they milk 1,400 cows and crop 2,800 acres. In an effort to promote renewable energy, Vir-Clar Farm also has two methane digesters that power their farm as well as neighboring homes.
At Vir-Clar Farm, Grinstead focuses on calf care, bookkeeping and employee management. Grinstead is a committed volunteer, serving as the President of the Fond du Lac County Fair Board. She also hosts countless tours on the farm and manages the farm’s social media presence. Grinstead and her husband Grant have three children. They strive to instill in them the values of hard work, kindness and generosity.

Gary Sipiorski, Dairy Development Manager for Vita Plus presented Grinstead with the award. “Katie always says ‘yes’. She is always willing to answer questions in a professional and positive manner.”
Winning the DBA Advocate Award came as a surprise to Grinstead on Wednesday, January 14, 2015.
“I’m totally humbled. I always knew I wanted to be a farmer,” she said. “This is my passion, this is what I love.”
The DBA Advocate Award is sponsored by Vita Plus.
