Wisconsin Farm Bureau Federation President Jim Holte issued the following statement regarding a bill draft by State Representative Scott Allen (R-Waukesha) proposing the redesign of Wisconsin’s license plates.
“Wisconsin Farm Bureau Federation opposes a bill draft by State Representative Scott Allen which suggests redesigning the state’s license plates.
No other single product drives more of an economic impact in Wisconsin than milk. ‘America’s Dairyland’ has earned it’s right to be the state’s slogan on our license plate.
The slogan portrays our pride in being cheese heads. Not only does dairy contribute $43.4 billion to our state’s economy, but we lead the country in cheese production.
The bill draft spits in the face of our beloved dairy community. ‘America’s Dairyland’ is who we are and where our future lies. Our dairy industry is a prime example of progress and innovation. Whether we are talking about our state’s top-of-the-line research facilities, high-tech milk processing plants or smart farms we are a viewed as global leader when it comes to dairy.
That is something to be celebrated, not eliminated.”
