Have you thought about being more involved in Farm Bureau outside of your own county? Serving on a state committee is a great way to become more involved with Farm Bureau. Here are my top five reasons why you should consider serving on a committee.
1. Developing Confidence and Leadership
Serving on a state committee builds confidence and brings out the leader in you. You get to work with the other committee members on developing your public speaking and the best ways to share your story. It helps you gain the confidence you need to get out of your comfort zone and become better at leadership through different training and activities.
2. Being A Voice for Agriculture
When you serve on a state committee, you get to be a voice for agriculture. You get to share your passion and knowledge about agriculture with more than just your county, you get to share it with the whole state. Many times, you will get to use your voice to answer questions about agriculture either in a Farm Bureau publication or through different state events.
3. Networking
Being able to network with other committee members, leaders and ag professionals is so helpful. Networking allows you to share your passion for agriculture with other people in Farm Bureau outside of your own county. It is also a great way to learn new ways of doing activities, gaining helpful insight, sharing any knowledge you have of agriculture and cultivating relationships across the state.
4. Opportunities to Travel and Attend Conferences and Events
If traveling is your thing, then serving on a committee is right up your ally. As a state committee member, you get to travel to conferences and events throughout our state and throughout our country. Farm Bureau makes it possible for you to attend these by paying for your registration and mileage to get you there. Being able to meet new people and see different parts of our state and nation is exciting and fun!
5. It’s Fun!
Being on a state committee is fun! You get opportunities to meet fellow Farm Bureau members and form lasting relationships, travel and tour different places, make lasting memories from all the hilarious things that happen along the way and try new things.
So, whether you have been asked to serve on a state committee or thought about serving on a state committee, get out of your comfort zone and serve on one. You have nothing to lose, but a whole bunch to gain by the opportunity and experience!
