Kayla Adamson, a second grade teacher at Lomira Elementary School in Dodge County, is the recipient of the Outstanding Teacher Award from the Wisconsin Farm Bureau’s Ag in the Classroom program.
Each year the Wisconsin Farm Bureau Foundation recognizes a teacher for their efforts in educating students on the importance of agriculture. Teachers of all grade levels and subject areas, with the exclusion of certified agriculture education instructors, are eligible to apply for the award.
“Adamson’s application proves that she is not only an outstanding teacher in her classroom, but that she works hard to network and collaborate with other teachers and volunteers with many organizations,” said Gretchen Kamps, Wisconsin Farm Bureau’s Ag in the Classroom Coordinator.
“A key of her program is a cross-curricular approach to help students learn about different facets of agriculture,” Kamps added. “Ultimately, she wants them to be able to discuss how food gets from the farm to their tables.”
Adamson received her Bachelor of Arts in elementary education from Wisconsin Lutheran College. She also attended a one-year Spanish Immersion Program at La Academia, in Quito, Ecuador. She taught middle school English at HOPE Christian School: Prima, in Milwaukee before coming to Lomira in 2012.
Adamson will be Wisconsin’s nominee for the National Excellence in Teaching Agriculture Award and will receive $500 to attend the National Ag in the Classroom Conference in Phoenix, Arizona.

Farm Bureau’s Ag in the Classroom program provides teachers and students K-12 with an understanding of how their food is produced. The program seeks to work within existing curricula to provide basic information on our nation’s largest industry: Agriculture. Wisconsin’s Ag in the Classroom program is carried out by a network of local educators, volunteers and representatives from agricultural organizations and businesses. The goal of the program is to help students gain a greater awareness of the role of agriculture in the economy and society, so that they may become citizens who support wise agricultural policies.
