WFBF joins agricultural, governmental and industry groups in letter of support
Wisconsin Farm Bureau Federation, along with 30 other organizations, submitted a letter to all members of the Wisconsin legislature encouraging their co-sponsorship of LRB 2553 and 2631 to create the Agricultural Road Improvement Program at the Department of Transportation.
“If you ask any farmer, they will tell you one of their biggest hurdles getting products to market is the roads nearest their farm,” said WFBF Executive Director of Governmental Relations Jason Mugnaini. “This legislative proposal would create a brand-new program at the DOT to fix roads specifically impacting agriculture.”
The proposed $150 million program would provide much-needed relief to farmers and the local governments charged with maintaining these facilities. The proposal has garnered a broad coalition of support from the state’s agricultural groups.
“Agriculture contributes $107 billion annually to Wisconsin’s economy,” said Mugnaini. “The availability of one-time revenue from the state surplus means we can make this critical investment without taking away from other budget funding priorities.”
