Wisconsin Farm Bureau Federation is pleased by today’s announcement by the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative regarding tariff-rate quotas in Canada.
In the announcement, USTR said it is pursuing consultations with Canada over the country’s announced allocation of dairy tariff-rate quotas (TRQs) for U.S. dairy products as a result of violations of the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement.
“We are pleased to see the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative sticking up for our dairy farmers,” said WFBF President Kevin Krentz. “Additional market access was part of the dairy negotiations with Canada and that’s what American dairy farmers expect.”
Krentz added, “Wisconsin Farm Bureau sincerely thanks the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative for drawing attention to this issue. Canada has always been an important trading partner but must be held accountable when not following agreed upon terms.”
