WFBF Statement on Passage of the Pet and Livestock Protection Act

Wisconsin Farm Bureau Federation President Brad Olson issued the following statement regarding the passage of the Pet and Livestock Protection Act:

“Wisconsin Farm Bureau congratulates Congressman Tom Tiffany on the passage of H.R. 845, the Pet and Livestock Protection Act. This legislation is an important step toward restoring common-sense wildlife management and providing certainty for rural communities that have lived with the consequences of a growing wolf population for far too long.

Wisconsin is prepared to responsibly manage its apex predator. The state has developed a new wolf management plan grounded in science and stakeholder input, and the Department of Natural Resources has reconvened the Wolf Management Committee to ensure continued engagement from farmers, conservationists, tribal representatives and other affected stakeholders. These efforts demonstrate Wisconsin’s readiness to balance conservation goals with the realities facing rural communities.

Returning management authority to the states would allow decisions to be made closer to the ground, based on local conditions and sound wildlife science. H.R. 845 offers a practical solution that protects pets and livestock, restores predictability, and respects the role of state wildlife agencies.

Wisconsin Farm Bureau Federation calls on the Senate to act immediately. Farmers and rural residents need stability, clarity and control over wolf management decisions that directly impact their livelihoods.”
