“We take photos as a return ticket to a moment otherwise gone.”
This is what I say to explain why I never miss a moment to snap a picture.
Someday if I ever lose my marbles, I want to be able to look back and hopefully remember all the good times I had and the wonderful people that I met.
Although I started taking photos for fun at a young age of different scenes around my family farm, I unexpectedly stumbled into a photography career as I got older. While studying agriculture and animal science in college, I enrolled in a photography minor.
A classmate asked if I wanted to take pictures of her wedding day and I replied, “Are you sure about that? I’ve never been the main photographer before.”
My classmate had seen my work and was confident I would do a great job. From there, my side business had begun to blossom.
Since then, I have taken photos of anything from graduating seniors, families and engagements to goats, horses and even some videography. My favorite sessions, however, will always be the types of media that promote and show the beauty and passion I have for the agriculture industry.
Along with beef and crop farming with my family and a full-time job, photography will remain a hobby of mine for now. I would like to rebrand my business and create an online store, but that is a work in progress.
It’s interesting to see how my style has changed over the years but it’s been a fun period of growth. Just like my experiences as a member in Farm Bureau, I enjoy continuing to develop both personally and professionally every year. And of course, no matter what the occasion is, I always take plenty of photos along the way!
