For Wisconsin, this legislation is especially critical given the state’s reliance on dairy and the broader agricultural economy. The bill includes provisions to strengthen dairy research programs, expand dairy consumption through nutrition incentives, and modernize tools like Dairy Margin Coverage and forward pricing programs.
Failure to pass a new Farm Bill, or at minimum, an extension, creates a very real risk of the United States falling off the “dairy cliff”. Wisconsin has more to lose than any other state. Without congressional action, key dairy safety net programs and authorities could expire or revert to outdated permanent law, leading to significant market disruption and huge costs for consumers and USDA
