At Lakeshore Land &amp; Livestock, sustainability means being intentional in taking care of their animals and their land. They consult with other farmers and experts that know the area and soil.&nbsp;<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">A tree line separates the pastures at Lakeshore Land &amp; Livestock from the shore of Lake Michigan. The land is well suited to raise beef cattle. Rotationally grazing their beef cattle benefits wildlife and reduces erosion. <\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">In addition to rotational grazing, the Harmanns are experimenting with no-till. <\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Regular soil testing has shown an increase in organic matter in the soil at Lakeshore Land &amp; Livestock. They are applying manure over commercial fertilizer. They also implement grassed waterways in their fields to slow erosion. <\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Eric says their biggest sustainability-related challenge is implementing no-till and convincing older generations that it is sustainable and can be profitable.
