Washington County Farm Bureau member Leah Weninger was recognized as one of Wisconsin Farm Bureau Federation’s 35 Under 35 as the top individual in the Sustainable Self category.
Leah is a perfect example of someone who is actively serving their community through leadership, mentorship and mental health advocacy. Leah stays busy by working on her family farm and hosts educational opportunities at Roden Barnyard Adventures. While also working at the Roden Barnyard Adventures, Leah serves as a farm camp instructor during the summer months. She also makes sure to focus on incorporating hands-on learning activities into her programs.
“I believe kids retain more information through hands-on learning,” said Leah.
Not only is Leah active inside and outside of classrooms, but also with libraries and community events. During her 35 Under 35 video, Leah said “I am helping farmers by promoting the truth about agriculture, educating consumers on how food is made and telling the stories of being a farmer.”
Leah also partners with Piggly Wiggly supermarkets across Washington County to display an educational video of how milk is produced on a local dairy farm throughout the month of June which is recognized as National Dairy Month.
Leah has set a personal goal to open her own farm visitor center to not only continue to educate today’s youth, but also the public on where food comes from.
“I see and hear the false negativity agriculture receives and that drives me to be the voice for agriculture and promote it in my local community,” said Leah.
Leah is a true leader who is shaping the face of agriculture for the future. When asked what sustainability means to her, she said, “Sustainability means taking my ability to share the memories and experiences I had growing up on the farm to educate consumers on farming and agriculture.”
Congratulations to Leah on being awarded as the top individual in the 35 Under 35 Sustainable Self category.
