Clare and her husband Jason are members of the Grant County Farm Bureau. She serves on the women’s committee and Jason serves on the Grant County Farm Bureau board.
Some other experiences she has are making pies for the fair food stand, working at the food stand, baking for the annual baked goods auction and helping with the Ag Day on Campus booth.
They also attend a variety of young farmer events. Her favorite memory is getting together to make the pies for the food stand. It is quite an experience to mass produce that many pies!
Clare and her husband along with their daughters Ella (20 months) and Faith (three months) run the family farm near Fennimore.
They milk 250 dairy goats as well as have a herd of 20 meat goats and five dairy goats that are shown.
Clare also has a home-based business called Lacey’s Lathers Goat Milk Body products. She sells soaps, lotions and lip balms made from goat milk.
Lastly, Clare is a part-time adjunct instructor for Southwest Wisconsin Technical College in the farm business production management area. If she has free time, Clare enjoys judging county fair goat shows and crocheting.
Clare is a goat superintendent for the Iowa County Fair, as well as an active member of the Iowa County Dairy Promotions Committee and the Mineral Point Farmers Market Committee.
What was your favorite childhood agriculture memory during the summer.
“Baling hay on my parents’ farm,” Clare said. “My dad and brother still make small squares without a kicker baler so when summer came the whole family was involved! I remember taking lemonade and chocolate chip cookies out to the guys as a young girl and as I grew up I began unloading hayracks and eventually graduated to driving the 4320 with the baler. Good memories of hot summer days and lots of hard work!”
What area of Farm Bureau would you promote to a potential member and why?
“I would promote the benefits of a united agriculture organization promoting all types and kinds of agriculture and fighting for farmers and family farms when needed,” Clare said. “I also would inform them of the benefits of being a Farm Bureau member from the discounts on hotels and equipment to the ability to promote agriculture on a local level.”
