World Dairy Expo brings huge opportunities to UW-Madison students. Two organizations that have a front seat to the event are Badger Dairy Club (BDC) and the National Agri-Marketing Association (NAMA). Billed as the place “where the dairy industry meets,” students from UW have an opportunity to see some of the best cows in the world and newest technologies in the industry.
We are both members of Badger Dairy Club, the true behind-the-scenes hands of Expo. BDC members do everything from monitoring the show ring, picking up milk on the infamous “milk runs,” hanging signage around the event center, cleaning up the grounds, running the milking parlor and grilling and selling grilled cheese sandwiches. The Badger Dairy Club Cheese Stand is BDC’s biggest fundraiser of the year and also one of the busiest places at Expo over lunch hours! It has become a well-known tradition at Expo for many years now. Working at World Dairy Expo for BDC is truly a fun and rewarding experience for all of those involved.
Taylor Fritsch is also a member of the National Agri-Marketing Association. During World Dairy Expo, NAMA works with commercial tradeshow exhibitors, providing professional help during the week to allow exhibitors a chance to escape their booth for meetings or just to check out what else is at the world’s largest dairy-focused tradeshow. While working, students also have a chance to network with professional NAMA members and alumni.
Many students at UW-Madison also work independently for companies and associations in their trade show booths at Expo as well as for show strings helping take care of cattle in the barns. World Dairy Expo is a huge asset to these students in being able to work, learn and network with many influential people, companies and organizations in the dairy industry.
