On Aug. 16, Congressman Derrick Van Orden held a Farm Bill listening session attended by nearly 300 farmers, many of them Wisconsin Fam Bureau members. He was joined by House Agriculture Committee Chairman G.T. Thompson and Senator Ron Johnson.
The crowd was there to share input on the upcoming farm bill which included topics like crop insurance, input costs, labor shortages and possible dairy pricing changes. Each participant was given a limited amount of time to speak. Both Pres. Krentz and Vice-Pres. Bragger spoke, each used their time to highlight the needs of Wisconsin farmers and advocate for maintaining crop insurance, updates to the Dairy Margin Coverage program and agricultural research opportunities. The size of the crowd is a testament to the needs of Wisconsin agriculture and its strong desire for greater representation in agriculture on a national level.
